Domaine Laurent & Karen Boussey is a quintessential family estate with a history spanning five generations. Based in the charming village of Monthelie, Laurent and Karen took the reins in 2003, combining their deep-rooted passion with modern expertise. Today, they manage 15 hectares across 24 different appellations, maintaining a steadfast commitment to traditional, sustainable viticulture.
Their approach is hands-on and meticulous, from manual pruning and disbudding to careful stripping of the leaves to ensure optimal grape maturity. In the cellar, their red wines undergo a cold maceration to extract an intense ruby colour, followed by regular punching down of the cap to ensure a wide aromatic range of typical Pinot Noir red fruits.
The Wine: Pommard 2022
Pommard is famous for producing some of the most robust and long-lived wines in the Côte de Beaune. The 2022 vintage was a year of celebration for producers, offering excellent ripening conditions that resulted in wines with incredible depth and sweet fruit.
•Colour: A deep, intense cherry red with brilliant clarity, a visual testament to the wine's concentration.
•Aroma: The nose is complex and powerful, offering an intense bouquet of violets and black fruits like blackberry and blueberry. As it opens, it reveals intriguing notes of Morello cherry, fresh fig, and subtle hints of forest floor and spice.
•Taste: On the palate, this is a full-bodied and powerful wine. It is well-balanced and structured, with dense, massive black fruit flavors that are supported by firm but polished tannins. The finish is dry, mellow, and impressively long.
Food Pairing
A wine of this power and structure is the perfect companion for rich, savory dishes. Its firm texture and deep fruit make it a dream for:
•Classic Pairings: Grilled or braised red meats, such as a succulent beef fillet or a thick beefsteak.
•Game Dishes: Furred or feathered game, including venison or roast pheasant.
•Hearty Favorites: A traditional Beef Bourguignon or stewed poultry with chestnuts.
•Cheese: It pairs exceptionally well with strong, washed-rind cheeses like Epoisses or a mature Cantal.
